Can I tell you what really sucks when you’re sick? Other than feelings like I’ve been in a fog for the past couple of weeks as I sit here watching the announcements (unwillingly) for Academy Award nominations. It’s interrupting my Today Show so I feel like I’m being held captive.
Last week, I kept Gracie home the entire week because of her UTI. The first prescription didn’t work but luckily the second one started working within 24-36 hours. She’s been vigilant about taking it too, which is great. She wasn’t happy about having to go back to school yesterday and fought tooth and nail, but once she got out the door she was fine. This morning went more smoothly. It helps that today there’s sunny weather.
I’m sorry, I got off track. Get me talking about the kids and it’s blah blah blah, I can go on and never stop. You should remind me next time that I’m supposed to be talking about What Sucks When You’re Sick. The problem is I’ve been getting gradually more and more sick since Thursday night. I’ve pretty much lost my voice amidst the wet cough, nonstop sneezing and blowing of the nose (yes, even after five days, I’m still just as coughy and sneezy and blowy). Laryngitis, baby.
I spent much of Friday vegging out and sleeping. Saturday was far too busy for my liking with running errands and interrupting my sleep, but Sunday and Monday were mostly sleeping in my bed-cave. The Mister was home since Thursday so that helped with the childcare issue and was simply perfect timing. He had to burn up a few personal days or lose them.
I’m still sick today and frankly would rather be in bed, but honestly if I go to bed I’ll be out until supper time. I need to be awake in case one of the schools calls or something else happens, not to mention be awake when the kids get out of school. But after all of that … other sleep shouldn’t I be, you know, better? Shouldn’t the aches be minimal? Coughing bruises and blowing-nose headaches are to be expected. Nothing “looks” like infection.
Yes, I look when I blow into the tissue.
Okay but what’s worse is that every remedy for soothing the throat and coughing and the nose has fricking menthol and/or eucalyptus. Everything. Those things burn and cause chemical burns. Not to mention they taste like ass. WTF?
I had to dig through tissues at the store to get Puffs Plus that weren’t fricking mentholated. Even tissues have menthol now? WTF?
I think I’ve gone through four bottles of ginger ale. I hate ginger ale but I prefer Schweppes. When I’m not sick, ginger ale makes me sick. It’s the only thing that settles my stomach when I’m this sick and it doesn’t make me gag other than green tea, and I’m out of my green tea. What a piss off.
Had enough of my sick rant yet? I have. I think it’s time for some of that ass-nasty MucinexD.

There are people who don’t look at the tissue? Weirdos! I’m sorry that you’re sick and that you’re not getting better and that all you want to do is sleep. Sometimes life really blows.

I’ve been told that I’m gross and weird for looking at the tissue. 🙂 I have to explain every time that I’m looking for signs of infection.
